Handmade using red earthenware and glazed with food safe lead free earthenware glazes.
IN THE MAKING
First I throw the shape of the teapot and then, after measuring the opening of the teapot at the top, throw the lid. Finally, I throw the spout. Everything has to dry until leather hard.
First the teapot has to be turned on the wheel, then the lid (making sure that it fits nicely) and I pierce a hole in the lid for the steam to escape through.
The spout is cut in to shape and I make holes in the teapot where the spout has to go. Then the spout is attached using slip and then smoothed down.
I pull handles and then attach them to the teapots to finish them. Then they are left to dry again.
First they are bisque fired, then glazed and then fired again. Finally they are tidied up and checked over to make sure they are ready for the shop.
