As I mentioned in my last post about pit fired pots I love the fact that this is a firing you can easily do in your garden. Today I did my own smoke firing outside - just a mini one with around 6 pots.
Preferably you need a day with good weather. Here in the Scottish Highlands this can be extremely rare, so as soon as one comes along I have to make the most of the opportunity. A dry day (so you aren't standing around in the rain) & a bit of a breeze (so the smoke is blown away rather than surrounding your neighbours houses) is ideal.
Right now it is smouldering in the garden - the pots won't be ready until the last of the material is burned away. The ashes won't reveal the final results until tonight. First glimpse of the results below..
The finished results will be on the website on the 'Pit Fired Pots' page shortly so keep an eye out!
Look forward to reading any comments you may have.
- UPDATE -
These are the final results from the smoke firing.. the ashes have been cleaned away and the pots have been sealed with wax.
