Opening an Etsy store has been one of the best things I have done for my business and I highly recommend using this site to sell your handmade goods, vintage goods or craft supplies online. I don't have one of the biggest and best stores on Etsy but it has been growing and developing at a rate that I am very happy with.
I had been selling my work in my shop in Balnakeil Craft Village for years but never considered that ceramics would sell online and always thought that it would be a hassle and the effort that it would take would not be worth it. However, with a lot of help and encouragement from my daughter I took my business online.
The main goal for me has always been to be able to make a living solely from my work and not have to earn money in other ways. My Etsy store is helping me achieve this as it allows me to reach a much wider audience and have a store that is open 24/7. At the moment I still make more from my shop in Balnakeil, but what I love about Etsy is that I have an income from selling my work during October until March that I wouldn't have otherwise.
It is definitely worth the effort.

A lot of work does go in to an Etsy store. You have to promote it, take great product photographs (something that I continue to struggle with) and keep it updated but it is worth it. I have been approached with several wholesale offers, one of my plates has been featured in ELLE eten and I have received many custom orders and requests.
I had 3 sales last January but have had 8 this January so I do continue to see my online store growing steadily. There are definitely still areas I need to improve on, the main one being product photography!
Want to try Etsy for free?
I still wasn't convinced that opening an Etsy store would be the right thing to do for my business. Luckily I found a free listings promotion so was able to try out Etsy for free with no cost to me. The only cost being the small percentage that Etsy take from your sales if you make any (3.5%).
Using my link to open your store will give you 40 FREE listings. These usually cost $0.20 each. The listings won't expire so you can take your time listing items and getting your shop up and running. Each item (once listed) will last for 4 months. If you sell it, great! If you don't sell anything and decide that there is nothing else you can do, Etsy just isn't for you, you didn't lose any money! There really isn't anything to lose by using this link to give Etsy a go for free.
There are no other costs to use Etsy other than those mentioned above.
I am more than happy to help if you have any questions or need any advice.
